Deeply affected by my studies of light in Nordic painting, I became interested in that simultaneous euphoria and melancholy which is the essnece of those depictions of late light. I use traditional strong value shifts as the underpining for a freer, more impressionistic use of color to achieve, I hope, those intense emotional responses. My move this year, from the United States to the Aude, is a long awaited opportunity to experience and paint the emotive light of the South. |
