Jonathan Moss' paintings represent landscapes
based on nineteenth century Romantic paintings, but are simultaneously
situated in a contemporary context. His main interest lies in the
contrast between light and dark and the tension between abstract and
figurative. The works are based on reminiscences of landscapes which
have been perceived more by emotion than by observation. Many observers
recognise a form, a place or experience a familiar emotion when looking
at these works.
These themes extend into his work in other media: mainly prints and
photography.
Jonathan Moss has exhibited widely in the UK and throughout Europe,
selling paintings through Bonhams, Phillips and Sothebys amongst others.
