Espéraza, ville d'art

De temps en temps, un peu partout dans le monde, il arrive que des régions deviennent terre d'accueil d'artistes venus d'horizons divers. Ces colonies d'artistes se créent spontanément, un peu par hasard, un peu par besoin dans des régions isolées où la vie est plus abordable. Il y a bien sûr d'autres raisons: le climat agréable et la diversité des paysages. La Haute Vallée de l'Aude en France offre tout cela. Une demi-heure de route et l'artiste peut trouver gorges et montagnes, collines, vignobles ou l'austère garrigue.

Espéraza, une petite ville de la Haute Vallée de l'Aude est en train de devenir un centre artistique. Au cours de ces dernières années de nombreux artistes sont venus s'installer dans la région, attirés par les merveilleux paysages, les habitants sympathiques et accueillants, et aussi par le nombre croissant d'artistes.

Une visite de cette petite ville qui a su préserver une certaine façon de vivre vous donne l'impression de remonter le temps. De nombreux artistes français, européens, américains ont choisi de vivre à Espéraza, d'autres y viennent souvent pour le plaisir de peindre sous la superbe lumière du Midi de la France.

From time to time, here and there in the world, natural art colonies spring up. No one plans them ahead of time, they just happen, often taking root in out of the way locales, where housing is affordable - a necessity for artists. Other factors contribute to the mix. Good weather is one, and interesting landscape is another.
France's Upper Valley of the Aude offers all of these things. The climate is mild and the landscape is beautiful. Within a half hour's drive, an artist can find mountain gorges, rolling hills, a patchwork of vineyards, or the austere look of the garrigue.

Espéraza, a small town in the Upper Valley of the Aude, is fast becomming the center of just such an art colony. Over the past few years, artists have been moving into the area, drawn by the beautiful landscape, the friendly, welcoming inhabitants, and now also by the growing number of fellow artists.

Visiting Espéraza is like stepping back in time. It has managed to preserve a bygone unhurried way of life. The artists who have settled there - from other parts of France and Europe and from the United States - range from permanent residents to those who visit as often as possible to enjoy painting in the gorgeous light of the South of France.
