1985
- a gift box of watercolors presented in the Aude, a region full of
colors and charm; a love match - at first timid, then more and
more bold as the years go on.
Guided by talented painters, mixing colors with more and more
assurance, my palette increased and became brighter, and came to
include various techniques: watercolor, oil and acrylic.
Now retired and living in the
Aude, I have discovered pastels, and I also participate regularly in
life drawing sessions. Recently, I have also been modeling in clay, the
magic sculpture medium where forms are born and take form under my
fingers.
All the techniques that I have tried bring me much joy: oil and
acrylic for their bright flowing colors, for their consistence and
covering power, which allows me to bring substance and weight to a
subject; watercolor, for a way of having paints always at hand; life
drawing as a method of deepening the study of the human form, by way of
drawing with all its subtleties of movement, of form and of light.
Not everyone sees in the same way. Cezanne said "The duty of art is not
to copy nature but to express it." The important thing, in my eyes, is
that my paintings be able to evoke atmosphere, ambiance and emotion.
Water is of great importance in my works; the rippling of a stream
under a bridge, the reflections of boats in the water's surface, for me
are synonymous with calm, with freedom and with liberty. Similarly, I
love portraits, finding they give me a way to go beyond the modeling of
the face, to the spirit and thoughts of my inner self.
